Granger - Leader of the living books
Granger appears only at the end of the book after Guy's escape from the city. Granger is one of the "free" men that chose to live outside of society where he is not constantly monitored and force-fed hollow ideas and norms. He gives Guy hope that he will adjust to the new order of life. Granger is the good version of Captain Beatty, he is wise but modest and extremely patient with all of Guy's worries that he "[doesn't] belong with [them] ... [he's] been an idiot all the way" (Bradbury 143). Granger also represents the essence of knowledge that survives against oppressions and asperities to triumph.

"But that's the wonderful thing about man; he never gets so discouraged or disgusted that he gives up doing it all over again, because he knows very well it is important and worth the doing."
